Our Collective Dilemma:

The challenges posed by an aging population are more pressing than ever, demanding visionary leadership and innovative solutions. Tideswell Emerging Leaders in Aging is more than a program. It is a community of interprofessional leaders across the country in our field of aging with a shared vision, commitment, and skillset. Their decisions and actions will affect how each of us ages.

Our Story:

Tideswell Emerging Leaders in Aging (ELIA) is a longitudinal program that develops leaders in the field of aging who improve the lives and health of older persons. The program was founded in 2014 by Christine Ritchie, hosted by Louise Walter at UCSF in partnership with Nancy Lundebjerg at AGS, and taught by visionary leaders like Mindy Fain, Ted Johnson, Bill Hall, Michael Harper, Sharon Brangman, Jim Pacala, Laurie Jacobs, Mary Tinetti and more. Over the past decade, the program has trained 167 leadership scholars in multiple specialties in medicine and the health professions across 31 states. Philanthropic support from Archstone, West, and the Bechtel Foundations have allowed us to offer the program at a reduced rate for scholars over the past 10 years, and we now need your support in order to continue this important work.

Our Invitation:

Your support is needed now to enroll the Class of 2025 Leadership Scholars.

We are grateful for all the individual donors, and our institutional sponsors.  We thank the University of Rochester Division of Geriatrics & Aging for the generous offer to host the 2025 Fall Conference at the University of Rochester! If you would like to discuss hosting a future conference or other institutional sponsorship options, please contact Anna Chang at anna.chang@ucsf.edu.

Your engagement, whether through a financial contribution or by spreading the word, will make a significant impact. This program cannot continue without your partnership. Your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the program to train the next class of scholars. Join us as we forge a path to find and support the emerging leaders in our field. Please share this page with colleagues and friends who share our vision for improving the lives of older persons.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Anna Chang, Louise Walter, Christine Ritchie, Mike Harper, Mindy Fain

On behalf of all past, current, and future ELIA scholars
